COMING SOON TO STOKE ON TRENT:
Community Performing Arts Centre – housing M. Y. Youth and Adult Theatre and M. Y. Inter-Theatre Company
A space for all the community, being specially developed and modified for people with physical disabilities and mobility issues.
We are opening CPAC at the begining of April, 2013 BUT the venue, 19 Birch Terace, Hanley is suffering from neglect and needs some serious love and care. We want to turn it into a vibrant and thriving space for the local community, for Stoke on Trent and for the surrounding area. To do that we need your
Tradesmen, plumbers, electiricians, painters, decoraters, builders, companies and individuals, get involved in ‘PROJECT CPAC – Promote your Company through doing something unique and special in the Local Community – for the Local Community!
With a target of just 8 days this project will run from Sunday March 17th – Sunday March 24th. Not for the benefit of one deserving group of individuals (think BBC DIY SOS), but this has the potential of providing life enhancing opportunities for inclusion in very many avenues of Performing and Visual Arts, to literally hundreds of local people at affordable and often funded cost!
What makes this project unique is the integrated nature of activities to be offered to include many performance and visual arts on a session basis and performance opportunities. Through links already made with the ambassador theatre group and others we have performance opportunities already being planned! INCLUDING a tour of the hit show Godspell in March and ‘A Celebration of Integrated Performance Arts ‘to be staged at Lichfield Cathedral on July 20th.
Activities will be put in place immediately with ‘in House’ professional facilitators and offered to ALL, without regard for age, gender, sexuality, race, disability, social or emotional background etc. We will be working closely with local dis-ability and social/community groups to provide what they consider to be most needed.
CPAC will also offer a home for rehearsal or meeting space again at affordable cost to already established groups, and will house a Coffee Lounge to become a social hub.
To prepare the building, which is NOT in a terrible state? We need to recapture the ‘Games Maker’ spirit! We need volunteers to help us capture and expand the ‘feel good’ factor of helping others – to contribute to a local project which will benefit so many local people. CPAC will in numerous ways contribute to the Government Objectives for Community learning and to support social and emotional well being along with the development of the local community.
From 10.00 am – 8.00 pm (ish) between March 17th-24th we need ANY one who can pledge even half an hour with a dust pan and brush to come together to create this project. CPAC is working to get as much Media Interest as possible from Local TV/ Radio etc and ALL businesses helping out will be promoted via ‘thanks mentions’, their own trade boards and through the press. WE need Paint (basic white!) Cleaning products, wipe clean tables, coffee lounge equipment, PAT Tested portable heaters etc etc and essentially strong folk not afraid of a little dirt, but willing to become a team…working towards an end product and a fantastic Opening Event…and onwards into the future.
Fabulous though it would be, we are not expecting many people to be able to donate the full week to this project and as such we are looking for pledges of either:
Your Time how ever long or short a period that may be DIY equipment or your trade skills (especially plumbers, decorators and electricians)
We need to present a fully safe environment for all that will be using CPAC and as such need the above to be qualified. Thank you
We need to hear from you as soon as possible…to express interest and pledges so that the project can be managed time effectively.
Facilitator /founders of CPAC Jill Young and Steve Mitchell are waiting to hear from you with any enquiries and pledges, would value time to discuss the project with any one wishing to know more on the following numbers:
